Cough Remedies

There are natural cough remedies that can help you overcome your illness and regain health.  Feeling worn out and coughing until your head hurts and ending up unable to sleep because of the huge discomfort may be a familiar condition if you’re suffering with a cough. Before you reach for the medicine cabinet, take a moment and realize that drugs aren’t always the answer for your ailments.

A simple cough remedy that works is to take a hot drink, before bedtime, consisting of equal parts of lime juice and honey. You may also try extracting the juice from ginger and add some honey & lemon to it then drink it up. If your cough is dry, you may take a gram of turmeric powder mixed with a teaspoon of honey. If you encounter fits of coughing due to dry throat, suck a few pepper corns. If you don’t have these in your kitchen, suck some lozenges or sugar-free gum to lubricate your mouth & keep throat moist.

Another surefire way to obtain relief is to have some hot chicken soup at dinnertime. Avoid eating meat & fried foods, as well as dairy products that tend to produce more mucus. A strained mixture of six peeled and chopped medium-sized onions combined with four tablespoons of honey set over a pan of boiling water then allowed to simmer may also be an effective cough treatment if taken (one tablespoon at a time) every couple of hours.

Relaxing & getting lots of rest and having a hot shower will also contribute to making people with cough feel better.

Different people use varying techniques to ease coughing and get restful slumber at night. While herbal teas work best for most, some have noted that one or two shots of tequila before bedtime help in loosening the chest and alleviating coughing spells at night. Others warm up by taking a teaspoon of honey with a little vodka or brandy in the evening. These are cough remedies for adults, of course. For kids with dry cough, the best way to loosen it up is to let them drink hot fluids. When kids feel a stuffy nose, they tend to breathe through the mouth, and this dries out the throat, leading to a cough. Drinking lots of water is also important.
