Driving Fear – Overcoming Driving Phobia

Driving fear is more common than you may realize.  The scientific name for fear of driving is hodophobia. This is a very common but serious condition that is characterized by the inability of the patients to drive normally or even to drive at all. People suffering from this condition often experience fear when it comes to driving in some places including bridges, highways, busy traffic, freeways, highways, intersections and multi-lane carriage ways or under certain conditions for instance when it is raining, thorough fog or at night. This fear cripples a person’s life in most cases because they may miss interviews, important social or professional functions or even skip important family events simply because they cannot drive. If you are suffering from this condition, you need not live with it because there are ways on how to overcome driving fear naturally and lead a normal driving life.

Since this fear is manifested in the mind, the only way to treat it is by managing your thoughts, emotions and imaginations during and outside driving. Most cases of driving phobia are caused by past traumatic experiences like road accidents, near misses or crashes especially if one was involved in or witnessed during childhood. If you are experiencing this fear for the first times, you probably need no consultation but confidence to drive but if it is recurrent and you feel that it is escalating each time, you need to address the problem fast.

If you are afraid of driving over certain places or conditions, do not avoid such situations. Instead, do a rehearsal even before you start driving and practice driving even with a video game to give you more confidence. Try to focus on other things other than your driving while driving so as to leave no room for negative thoughts. Remember that this fear is all in the mind and filling the mind with positive thoughts is a sure way to avoid this fear.
