Everyone loves the idea of getting fit in the privacy of their own home. Yet, many people struggle with the discipline of working out at home on a regular basis. Before you go out and purchase any of the latest stationary bikes, you have some factors to consider.
First, most bikes are not very mobile. You have to stay in one place and you cannot take it outdoors. One solution to this problem is that you could invest in a stationary bike stand. Many bicycling athletes go for this option. It allows them to mount their favorite bike onto a stand for the purpose of working out indoors. This is great for rainy days or for wintry places. There are many different styles so be sure to look for ones that would best fit your bike.
Another downside is the comfort-ability factor involved. Some people just cannot get comfortable riding a bike with a small seat for any extended period of time. If this is you, your best bet is to consider a recumbent bike. It has a much bigger seat and most of the pedaling is done out in front of you. It can be more of a challenge to get your heart rate up to an acceptable level, but it is worth a try.
An upright bike is also not ideal for back pain suffers. On a traditional bike there are a lot of back muscles involved. A recumbent bike is also ideal for these types of individuals as well.
Above all please take the time to try out the bike at the store before you get it home. Not every bike is created equal. You might be too tall for the handlebars or to short to reach the pedals even with an adjustable chair. Just be sure to do your homework before getting the product home.
