Something Sweet Without The Calories.

This article is specifically for those with a sweet tooth. Fighting empty calories in sweets can be a chore during anytime of year, but especially during the holiday season when we are tempted with every delicious treat imaginable. Well, there’s help for us, because I fall into this category right along with a lot of you!

For those of you that are not aware, there is an all natural alternative to processed sugar that does not come from a laboratory, or from re-processing something that did originally occur naturally. This noncaloric substance is called “Stevia”. Stevia is derived from the leaves of a plant grown primarily in Paraguay, and can be used as a sweetener in drinks, foods, and anything else you would normally use sugar, or artificial sweeteners to create. Stevia is inexpensive, and because it is 70 -400 times sweeter than sugar, depending on the form in which you get it, a little bit goes a long way!

Stevia has also been said to provide the following benefits that simply don’t exist with sugar or sugar substitutes:

- Limits growth of bacteria
- Nourishes the pancreas aiding in the release of insulin
- Won’t cause tooth decay
- Nutritionally supports healthy digestion and gastrointestinal function
