They Don’t call it Junk Food for Nothin’!

While it would be better to avoid this stuff altogether, we all know that’s not realistic, but by the same token, continuing to consume junk food in mass quantities is gonna kill us! So, like everything else in life, moderation is the key, and in this instance moderation with greater emphasis on reduction of non-nutritional intake is critical.

Take a look at the McDonald’s menu by way of example. Not to pick on McDonald’s though – but we have to pick one! A Big Mac large fries and a shake is over 1,740 calories, the equivalent of one day’s caloric intake in one meal!

After you get over the shock of that calorie injection take a look at the amount of sodium contained in those items, which is three times the daily recommended allowance, and remember, that’s just one meal. Also, compare the nutritional value tied to each and you will find that it’s mostly empty calories. It’s incredible that we survive on this stuff, but that’s the point, we are slowly creating sicknesses and deficiencies that will ultimately end up taking us out before out time, if we don’t do something to change our lifestyles.

So, the next time you go out for fast food, consider what you’re getting, and what you’re not. Again, we’re not suggesting that you have to cut it out altogether, but certainly, if wellness matters to us, our junk food intake needs serious attention.
