Used Treadmills – Guide To Inspecting And Buying

Purchasing used treadmills is a great way to get everything you would want from a new treadmill for a significantly reduced price. The important thing is to inspect the treadmill carefully so you do not end up taking home a lemon. Buying used treadmills liken to purchasing a used car and while it may be hard to know exactly how well the machine will hold up once you take it home, there are a few factors you can examine to avoid any obvious major problems.

The biggest and most important part of any mechanical treadmill is the motor. This will essentially make or break the treadmill since a failed motor will be very expensive to repair or replace. Many times it will cost more than the treadmill is worth and at that point you have a junk treadmill on your hands. To inspect the motor of the used treadmills you come across during your shopping process you have to be able to turn it on. Listen for unusual noises and ask about anything that doesn’t seem right. Also step onto the belt and test different speeds to make sure the motor isn’t struggling.

While you are on the deck make sure that it is wide and long enough for you to comfortably move around. This is especially important for sprinters or taller people with long strides. You do not want to work out in a cramp environment. Also check the console and make sure the monitors are reading accurately.

Another aspect to keep in mind is the body of the treadmill. A steel frame is certainly more durable than a frame made of any other material. The safety features should also be working properly for obvious reasons. You want the emergency stop button to be functional and safety locks to keep the treadmill from accidentally turning on.
